Complete rules and strategies for each domino variant

🧮 Muggins (All Fives) - Complete Rules
Objective:

Be the first to reach 150 points by making the open ends of the layout add up to multiples of 5.

Setup:
  • 2-4 players draw 7 dominoes each (5 each for 4+ players)
  • Remaining dominoes form the boneyard
  • Player with highest double starts (or highest domino)
Gameplay:
  • Match dominoes to either open end of the line
  • Count the pips on all open ends after each play
  • Score points if the total equals 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc.
  • Doubles are placed perpendicular and count both ends
  • First double played is the "spinner" - can be built on all 4 sides
  • Draw from boneyard if you can't play
  • Pass if boneyard is empty and you can't play
Scoring:
  • Multiples of 5 = that many points (10 pips = 10 points)
  • "Muggins!" - Claim opponent's missed points
  • Going out first = 10 bonus points
  • Round ends when someone plays their last domino
  • Count remaining pips in opponents' hands (rounded to nearest 5)
Pro Strategy:

Keep track of played dominoes. Save your scoring plays for maximum impact. Control the spinner!

🗡️ Cut Throat - Complete Rules
Objective:

Be the first to play all your dominoes while blocking opponents in this ruthless 3-4 player game.

Setup:
  • Best with exactly 3 players (can play with 4)
  • Each player draws 9 dominoes (7 for 4 players)
  • No teams - everyone plays for themselves
  • Highest double starts the game
Gameplay:
  • Standard matching rules apply
  • NO drawing from boneyard - must pass if can't play
  • Focus on blocking specific opponents
  • Track what each opponent has played
  • Strategic passing is allowed to set up blocks
  • Game ends when one player goes out
Scoring:
  • Winner scores sum of all pips in opponents' hands
  • If blocked (no one can play), lowest pip count wins
  • First to 150 points wins the match
  • Bonus: Going out with a double = +20 points
Advanced Tactics:

Target the leader! Form temporary alliances to block the winning player, then break them at the perfect moment.

  • Draw from boneyard if you can't play
Rounds & Scoring:

Setup:
  • 4 players in partnerships (sit opposite partner)
  • Each player draws 7 dominoes
  • Count tricks, not points on dominoes
  • 7 tricks per hand (1 point each)

Play:
  • Bidder leads first trick
  • Must follow suit if able
  • Trump beats all other suits
  • Highest domino in led suit wins (if no trump)

  • Fail bid = opponents score bid amount
